10 Top Tips For YouTube Beginners.

10 Top Tips For YouTube Beginners.

One thing that really grinds my gears is the assumption that blogging/vlogging is ‘easy’. I could go on for hours about how hard being a blogger/vlogger can be, but I won’t, not today anyway. Instead, I want to share a few tricks and tips I’ve learnt since I started vlogging at the beginning of 2018. YouTube beginners, listen up.

Growing up, blogs weren’t really a ‘thing’.

It wasn’t until Theo was born that I really took notice of blogs and their creators. In 2015, I set up my own blog documenting the highs and lows of parenting a child with allergies. I didn’t expect my little corner of the internet to amount to anything, but it did. My blog is now my full-time job. In early 2018 I decided to start a YouTube channel to compliment my blog.

I’m not as dedicated to my YouTube channel as I’d like to be. I don’t have a set schedule for videos and I don’t earn any income from creating them. My main priority will always be my blog, however, I love documenting our family in a visual way. I currently have just under 800 subscribers, which I’m rather proud of. In 2019 I’m going to try to put more effort into my video content.

Despite my lack of dedication and lower than average number of subscribers, I’ve learnt a lot over the past year.

Below I have listed just a few things I have learnt in the hope of helping other YouTube beginners to achieve their online dreams.

  1. Do not compare yourself to others. Comparison is the thief of joy and you will find yourself losing motivation fast if you compare your channel stats to those of other vloggers.
  2. When you first start vlogging, you don’t need all of the gadgets and gizmos. All you need is easy to use editing software and a decent camera.
  3. Do your research. Take a look at what vloggers in the same niche are posting to give you inspiration for your own videos.
  4. Try and ignore criticism. Negative, nasty comments are prolific on YouTube. YouTube beginners need confidence, negative comments are bound to knock your confidence if you let them. Press delete and move on.
  5. Post consistently. This is something I am failing at at the moment. Subscribers will lose interest if you don’t add new content to your channel regularly.
  6.  If you want your videos to rank well on YouTube you need to do a bit more than just upload videos. Make sure you use tags, add a descriptive title and a good description.
  7. Make sure you share your videos on other social media platforms.
  8. Install a browser plugin such as TubeBuddy. TubeBuddy is a YouTube channel management plugin which will help you maximise the potential of your content.
  9. Always encourage viewers to subscribe to your channel and add a subscribe button to the end of your video.
  10. Although its important to do plenty of research into your vlogging niche, try not to follow the crowd. Don’t post something you’re not comfortable with just because everyone else seems to be posting about a similar topic. Be you, be original, stand out.

YouTube is a tough nut to crack, but with time and patience, you can achieve your vlogging dreams.
