Family Days Out On A Budget In Norfolk.

Family Days Out On A Budget In Norfolk.

Being a single work at home Mum means that sometimes I struggle to make ends meet. Once the bills are paid and the food shop is done I have to be extremely careful about my spending.

One of my biggest worries is that the children will look back on their childhood and all they will remember is Mummy saying ‘sorry, not this week’ or ‘we just can’t afford it’. They eat good food, have a lovely comfortable home and wear lovely clothes, but I wish I could do more with them.

Norfolk is a beautiful county full of hidden treasures, our countryside is incredible and has so much to offer. We often go on muddy walks and trips to the park but recently I’ve been searching further afield and discovering all the adventures we can have that won’t break the bank. I thought I’d share my findings with you!

Spree.

The Spree book offers exclusive savings in Norwich and other cities such as Fife, Aberdeen and Plymouth. Available to purchase here for £20, this book will save you thousands. It is divided into 5 sections, listed below, there really is something for everyone!

  • Family Dining
  • Informal & Take-away
  • Leisure & Recreation
  • Health, Beauty & Wellbeing
  • Shopping & Servicing

The spree book also comes with a free membership card. If you need any additional cards for friends or family members you can purchase one in the online shop.

Chapelfield Shopping Centre.

Chapelfield shopping centre in the heart of Norwich regularly hosts seasonal activities for children. It is also packed full of child friendly places to eat and boasts a Kids Club where you’ll find regular free arts and crafts workshops and wonderful shows during the school holidays, suitable for ages 3 to 12 depending on the activity.

Castles.

There are some beautiful castles in Norfolk and you can spend hours wandering around the grounds letting the children’s imaginations run wild! Below I have listed some beautiful castles in Norfolk that are perfect for visiting for an adventure whatever the weather. Admission fees available online.

Norwich Castle is close to the city centre and is truly stunning. Within the castle is a museum which is perfect for slightly older children. You can find a programme of events here.

Thetford Forest.

Where I live, we are very lucky to be surrounded by some beautiful woodland areas. Slightly further afield is High Lodge Thetford Forest which is a fantastic day out for all ages. The admission fee is extremely reasonable and you can spend the whole day here without running out of things to do.

The site is currently offering the Highway Rat Activity Trail which is perfect for younger children, but fun for the whole family!

A day at the beach.

Here in Norfolk we have a stunning coastline. There are some truly beautiful beaches in Norfolk including Brancaster, Great Yarmouth and Holkham, which has been voted the best beach in Britain.

Great Yarmouth boasts several arcades and a beautiful pier as well as SeaLife Centre and indoor adventure golf which makes it perfect for occasions when your budget isn’t quite so tight.

Take along a bucket and spade to Brancaster or Holkham and spend the day having fun by the sea without spending a penny, or visit Horsey beach and see if you can spot any seals!

National Trust.

A family National Trust membership costs £9.55 a month, for this small cost you get –

  • Free parking at most National Trust car parks.
  • Free entry to over 500 establishments.
  • National Trust Handbook full of ideas to help you plan a visit.
  • National Trust Magazine sent to you three times a year.

There are some amazing National Trust properties in Norfolk including Oxburgh Hall, Blickling Estate and Felbrigg Hall.

The Norfolk broads.

I love the Norfolk Broads. Perfect for a little escapism, the Norfolk broads offer a variety of things to do for all ages. You can hire a boat for the day, visit BeWILDerwood or hire a cycle and enjoy the broads on dry land.

I hope this post has given you some ideas for days out in our beautiful county – if you have anything else to add please feel free to leave a comment below or send an email to admin@justthethreeofus.co.uk.
