20 Things I Want My Children To Remember As They Grow Up.

20 Things I Want My Children To Remember As They Grow Up.

Mia and Theo recently celebrated their 7th and 5th birthdays. As they grow and mature, they are learning more about life and the world around them. It’s hugely important to me that as my children grow, they remain as wonderful as they are today. As they transform from children to teenagers I want them to remember that…

  • They are the reason I smile every single day. Because of them, I am me.
  • They make me laugh until my ribs hurt.
  • My favourite time of day is waking up and seeing their faces.
  • When I feel like I’m drowning, they keep me afloat.
  • Becoming a mother at 18 + 20 didn’t come without judgement, but they were both worth every stare and every comment. I am proud to be their Mummy.
  • In this life, not everyone will be kind, have courage and be strong.
  • Always forgive, even if its hard.
  • Never give up on what you believe in.
  • Mummy tries so very hard to give them the best of everything.
  • They won’t always succeed, but they must always keep on trying.
  • Even when they do everything right, sometimes things will not work out the way they planned.
  • They will not have the power to control everything that happens to them, but they have the power to control how they react to the unfairness in life.
  • They must take responsibility for their mistakes.
  • They should grab every opportunity offered to them with both hands.
  • Be kind, always.
  • They mustn’t let allow bad experiences to define them.
  • I haven’t always got it right, but I have always tried to correct my mistakes.
  • Always stay true to themselves.
  • They must never allow anyone to treat them poorly or convince them that they do not matter.
  • Do not compare themselves to others. Everyone has their own strengths and weaknesses.

Above all, I want them to know they are loved beyond measure. For as long as I live, I will be their safe place, they’re haven. No matter what path they take in life, I will always be their biggest supporter. Being a mother is one of the hardest jobs in the world, but if my children grow up remembering just half of the above points, I will consider myself to have succeeded.
