Summer Break: Why I Never Want It To End.

Summer Break: Why I Never Want It To End.

The summer break is a mix of survival and memory making for parents. This summer break is more special than ever because Mia starts a new school in September. Having the kids at home for six weeks straight is tough going sometimes, but this year I want to cherish the time with my children before they don’t want to hang out with me anymore.

We’ve been ticking things off our bucket list for the summer break. The children have been attending a fun local holiday club for 5-11 year old’s. We’ve also been spending lots of quality time together at home.

The nature of my job means that I am often glued to my laptop or phone sending emails or editing photos. This summer I’ve made a conscious effort to be more present, ditching the phone and switching off the laptop at every available opportunity.

This summer feels almost bittersweet. Part of me wants the time to fly by so that routine can resume. The other part of me wants each and every day to last forever. When September arrives, my little girl won’t be so little anymore. Moving up to middle school feels like such a huge leap, it’s an exciting new adventure for her, but a huge milestone that I can wait a little longer for!

Watching your children grow up is amazing, but heart wrenching all at the same time. I’m immensely proud of my confident, self-assured children and I know that the new school year will bring them both amazing opportunities. At the same time, I wish I’d savoured their younger years a little more. They really don’t stay little for long.

I’m determined to make this summer break one to remember. I just wish time would slow down…
