5 Things You Should Do Before You Publish Your Blog Posts.

Want to get your content seen but not sure how? There are so many ways you can promote your blog posts, and it all starts before you hit publish. Today I’m sharing the five things you should do before you publish your content.

  1. SEO – The Yoast SEO plugin is a bloggers best friend.  It handles the technical optimisation of your site & assists with optimising your content. Click here to read a great beginners tutorial on using the Yoast SEO plugin. Make sure you use SEO (search engine optimisation) keywords in your blog posts, particularly in the title and URL as well as in image titles and alt text. The Google search console helps you track the impact of your SEO efforts. The Google Keyword planner allows you to research how many people are searching for keywords related to the topic you are blogging about. This will require you to set up an Adwords account, but you can use the planner tool for free. Google crawls keywords and links, so it’s especially important to write keyword rich content.
  2. Social media – Most of my traffic comes from social media. Each time I write a post, I schedule Instagram posts, tweets and Facebook posts to promote it. What’s the point in writing blog posts and not making efforts to get your content seen? Make sure you use appropriate hashtags on Instagram and Twitter to gain even more exposure.
  3. Pinterest – Pinterest has the potential to boost your traffic greatly. Include Pinterest friendly images in your post (I place mine at the bottom) so that your readers can pin your content. Pinterest recommends a 600×900 PX image size. Check out your Pinterest analytics to discover which of your posts performs well, evergreen content such as crafts and recipes are very popular on Pinterest. Make sure you include keywords in your profile name, description, board names and descriptions and individual pin descriptions.
  4. Tailwind – Using Tailwind has boosted my page views tremendously. Tailwind is a scheduling tool for Pinterest and Instagram. Check out my post all about how to use Tailwind here. This post is not sponsored in any way, but you can use my referral link which will give you a month free, and I will receive a small discount at no cost to you. It’s important to make sure your pins have good descriptions and SEO keywords.
  5. My final piece of advice may seem like common sense, but you’d be surprised at how many times I’ve forgotten to do this. Make sure you check the spelling and grammar in your post. Any errors take mere seconds to fix. Spelling and grammar errors look unprofessional and could hold you back from getting paid blog work.
