Fatherless On Fathers Day.

This one is for you. The fatherless on Father’s Day. The one’s who’s father’s are no longer with us. The one’s who have never known their fathers and those like me who no longer have a relationship with their father.

On days like today, it’s hard not to notice the father shaped gap in our lives. Social media is awash with declarations of appreciation and love. Many are racing to the supermarket to grab a last-minute gift. But what about us, the ones who are fatherless on Father’s Day?

A father is someone who we should look up to no matter how tall we grow. Someone who should put our broken pieces back together. A father should be there to see life’s milestones. Nothing eases the emptiness felt on days like today. The well-meaning sentiments of others, although appreciated, do very little to heal our aching hearts.

Whether you are grieving for a father who has passed, or a father who is simply no longer a part of your life, make sure you smile today. Remember how far you have come, how proud your father would be of all you have achieved. If you have someone in your life who isn’t your father, but is a father figure in your life, embrace them. Let them know they are loved.

There is nothing I can say to make it right, I cannot find the words to fix the broken hearts of those yearning for their father this Father’s Day. Today I will think of my father and remember happier times. Sometimes that’s all we can do.

Make today a happy day, a day for remembering but also for celebrating a life lost or for progress made.

Being fatherless on Father’s Day isn’t easy, but you are not alone. You are never alone.
