Making A House A Home On A Budget.

If you are a regular visitor to Just The Three Of Us, you’ll know that I am passionate about creating a beautiful home on a budget. I am a single mum of two, determined to give my children the best I can possibly give. With a budget like mine, I wouldn’t be surprised if you initially thought it was impossible. This post will explain a little more about how I have managed to transform my home with limited funds. I hope after reading this post you’ll know exactly what you need to do to achieve the home of your dreams.

First of all, lets discuss flooring. Carpets and laminate often come with a hefty price tag, but cheap carpets that are a good quality are available online. Simply measure the length and width of the area you wish to lay flooring and order your new budget friendly carpet from the comfort of your home. Not only do you save money on flooring, you will also save money on fuel – what more could you want?

When purchasing paints, we often go for branded options. I’ve found own brand emulsion to be just as good, if not better than branded alternatives, and the price difference between the two options is astonishing. Paint doesn’t need to be pricey. Make sure you compare the cost of all the paint options available to you even if you haven’t used anything other than branded options in the past. Your budget will thank you!

I know what you are thinking – what about all the tools I’ll need? Of course, you’ll need good quality tools for laying flooring and painting but, just like branded and own brand paint options, you’ll also save money on your tools by shopping around instead of sticking with what you’ve used in the past. You could even ask family and friends to borrow the tools you require which would be entirely cost-free!

Nothing finishes off a newly decorated room like soft furnishings. The price of ornaments, cushions, throws and other decorative items can soon add up, but you’ll be amazed at how you much you can save on putting the finishes touches in place with a little know how.

Always make sure that you check out your soft furnishing options online – many popular online marketplaces offer a huge variety of items at half the price of items sold in stores. It’s also a great idea to check out your local charity shops for hidden treasure, or you can upcycle your existing items to fit with your new interiors.

So there you have it – it is most definitely possible to create a beautiful home whilst working with a limited budget.
