A healthy night’s sleep is something we should all be getting a bit more of, but when it comes down to it, your kids need a good kip more than anyone! After all, they’re growing and growing fast, and they need all the rest they can get to help them get through their teenage years, and to get through school with the best grades they can manage.

So with that in mind, here’s just a couple of the best tried and tested ways to help your children get some better sleep at night. They need plenty of hours each night, and they need the right conditions in their bedrooms to make sure of it.

Turn the Overhead Light Off

Of course, your kids often don’t want to go to bed, and you’re forever in and out of your own bed to tell them to turn their lights off and go to sleep. But when it comes down to it, if you remove option to turn on the bright and blasting overhead light in their room, it’s going to be a lot easier to get them into bed!

Of course, this doesn’t mean get rid of the hanging lamp totally. No, instead, make sure there’s some more private, quieter lighting options available in your kids’ bedrooms. Small lamps attached to the wall just above their beds, which makes reading or using their phone whilst tucked up ready to sleep a much more relaxed affair.

You can’t always be checking in to make sure your kids are falling asleep, so give them an environment that’s easier for that to happen all on its own. And with a light that’s dim, your children will be much better at producing melatonin that’ll get them dropping off faster and faster.

Buy a Better Mattress

Your children might have lumpy and uncomfortable beds that they don’t look forward to sleeping on at night. They might feel a bit like the princess and the pea, and have a mattress that keeps them tossing and turning through the small hours, disturbing their sleep and making them a zombie in the morning. Kids are very sensitive, so any mattress that’s sub par is going to be a healthy sleep killer!

Which is why it might be a good idea to invest in a new mattress for them. You should already be replacing mattresses every 8 years or so, but make sure you do away with any bad ones as soon as they’re a problem. Look to buy something like silentnight mattresses instead – brands that are known for their comfort are going to make it a lot easier for your kids to enjoy going to bed and going to sleep.

A healthy night’s sleep doesn’t have to be hard to manage when you’re young. Make sure you’re fostering good night time rituals, and have plenty of blankets available!
