My Blogging Essentials.

I’ve been blogging for nearly three years now, how time flies!

In that time I’ve learnt a lot about what you do and don’t need to be a successful blogger. I receive many messages from people wanting to start their own blog and earn money from it. Truth is, the only way to earn money from your blog is hard work and dedication and it is by no means easy.

Blogging definitely does not provide a steady reliable income – so if you’re wanting to earn money from your blog don’t expect to be an overnight millionaire.

The most successful blogs are the ones that come from the heart.

Just The Three Of Us started off as The Adventures Of An Allergy Mummy. My blog was my place to vent my feelings and emotions about our challenges with Theo and his multiple allergies and health issues. When I pressed publish on my first post I had no idea where it’d my little corner of the internet would take me…

If you want to start blogging the three main things you need are –

  • Great ideas.
  • Fab content.
  • Good images.

If you have those, then your already halfway there!

Below I’ve listed my blogging essentials. These are the items that I use every single day which make life as a self-employed blogger a little easier.

The cameras…

I have two cameras – a DSLR and a compact digital camera. The DSLR is purely for photos and my compact digital for vlogging. I occasionally use my compact digital for photos when out and about as it’s far easier to transport.

My DSLR is a Canon EOS 1300D – it’s a fantastic camera with a reasonable price tag. I’d highly recommend this DSLR for beginners.  The compact digital camera I use is the Canon Powershot SX730 HS – I love this little camera. It’s so easy to use, perfect for video and I can pop it in my bag and take it out and about with ease, unlike the DSLR.

Both of the above cameras are WiFi enabled which makes transferring my footage and photos to my phone or laptop an incredibly easy process.

If you’re looking for to capture high quality images for your blog/social media platforms I’d highly recommend both of the above.

Where the magic happens…

My second item essential item is my laptop. I currently have a Lenovo notebook which I love, but it lacks the memory capacity I require so I’m on the lookout for something more suitable. I’d absolutely love a Macbook Air, a blogger can dream hey?

Blogging from a laptop/notebook means you can take your work with you wherever you go. You can blog on the bus, the train, in the coffee shop, anywhere you like!

I’d definitely recommend buying a laptop with large internal storage – this is vital for both storing images/footage and running photo and video editing programmes.

Then there’s my phone…

My phone is the backbone of my blog and I couldn’t be without it. I’m an Apple girl at heart but I’m currently using an Android device which is also serving me well. I use my phone for social media, making notes and writing content on the go.

Just like a laptop, you’ll need a phone with a reasonable amount of storage. I’m not eligible for an upgrade for a while yet but I’ve got my eye on the iPhone X with 256GB of storage for all the apps I use and photos I take.

I’d also highly recommend…

  • Dropbox for online storage if like me your computer is lacking.
  • Capture By Lucy for the perfect backdrops for flat-lays and product photography.
  • Photoscape for editing your images.
  • Lightworks – a free video editing programme.
