My son is what you’d call a ‘typical boy’. He loves cars, trains, tractors and anything that makes plenty of noise.
Scalextric is a household name, infamous for producing slot car racing sets which first appeared in the late 1950’s. Both young and old enjoy playing with Scalextric tracks. At four years old, Theo is the perfect age to really appreciate such a classic toy.
The My First Scalextric set is perfect for developing the hand/eye coordination of younger children like Theo. The set comes with 1 x Scalextric track which is a figure of 8 and 2 x Scalextric rally cars. The rally cars each have their own power hand controllers which are colour coded to match the cars and the chevrons on the track itself.
Adult supervision is required to assemble the track which, once together, is robust and a very good size.
Magnatraction technology helps the cars to stay on track. Although I did find it a little tricky to position the cars ‘just so’ to allow them to whizz around.
As you can see, once set up, the children had hours of fun!
What I like most about the My First Scalextric set is that players control the cars around corners by reducing the tension they are placing on the trigger. Rather than being a mindless ‘pull and go’ racing set, this set requires children to focus.
As she is a little older than Theo, Mia got the hang of it straight away. Theo however struggled to begin with, but after a few attempts (and one mega tantrum) he realised my ‘practice makes perfect’ mantra really does work!
When I asked Theo what he liked about his My First Scalextric set he told me that he liked the bright colours and the noise the cars make as they speed around the track.
We are huge fans of the My First Scalextric set and strongly recommend it for any willing young drivers.
