Do you live in Norfolk? Are you planning on visiting during August? If the answer to either of those questions is yes, then you should definitely add Norwich Castle to your family fun itinerary. Within the walls of this stunning castle you’ll find an abundance of knowledge and artefacts, and from 29th July-31st August 2019 the castle is running a summer holidays activity programme that promises to excite children of all ages.
Earlier this week we visited the castle to discover what was on offer. Despite living in Norfolk since my birth, this was the first time I’d ever been to Norwich Castle. Mia has visited the castle on school trips but myself and Theo had no idea what to expect.
To say I was pleasantly surprised was an understatement. The castle itself is stunning and the grounds offer breathtaking views of Norwich. It’s easy to be swept away in the grandure of Norwich Castle, I sure was.
Myself, the children and a group of fellow bloggers enjoyed a delicious breakfast buffet which gave us plenty of time to emerse ourselves in the historical atmosphere before our morning of Viking fun truly began.
Who knew Vikings could be so much fun? We explored beautiful Viking objects, completed a trail, discovered the Nordic origin of local place names and amazing Viking facts about our local area, tried on Viking costumes and had our picture taken at the Legendary Selfie Station. There is so much to see and learn at Norwich Castle.
We also decorated Coppergate helmets in the Castle Keep and listened to a wonderful story in the Legend exhibition. It really was a fantastic morning, we will definitely be visiting Norwich Castle more often – I’m converted! Summer activities are included with museum admission – so you don’t need to worry about saving extra pennies.
If you want to try something different with your family this summer, head over to Norwich Castle or explore other museums in the area such as Gressenhall or Time & Tide. Each museum is unique and family members both young and old will enjoy their visit.
